Post SCT Maintenance
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi Everyone
I am +79 SCT and two weeks ago my Oncologist told me my bloodwork was normal
However, during an appointment this week, she said she wanted me to do maintenance of Revlimid,+ Darzalex 2X/week for four months then once a month. That's more than the 1X/week treatments I was getting prior to SCT! I asked her why would she want me to do such extensive maintenance if my bloodwork is normal? She says "all data points to longer lifespan with said maintenance". I'm getting a BMB in a… read more

If your doc cannot explain it to you and your caregiver clearly, maybe time to find a doc who can communicate better.

Driving Myeloma Numbers Down To MRD, Then What?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone spoken to their oncologist about how the MM treatments are (hopefully) driving the numbers down to minimal residual disease but doesn’t address the genetic mutation in the bone marrow that’s producing the abnormal cells? Hence, MM comes back over time. We’re so focused on treating the disease with pills and injections, and new drugs for treatment that I never hear what the researchers are focused on to actually cure the disease.

This is the first paper I’ve read which addresses… read more

What Does Remission Mean In Multiple Myeloma?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I find it interesting that many of you say that you are in "remission." My husband's Hematology Oncologist says that he never tells his patients that they are in "remission" because if one looked hard enough in a MM patient, they could always find some cancer cells hiding somewhere in the body. Has anyone else ever been told this before?

Pros Vs Cons Of Stem Cell Transplant
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am about to complete my 20th infusion (5 cycles). I’m being offered a Stem Cell Transplant (SCT) during the last half of October.

My question is, if SCT does not extend longevity, what are the significant benefits of receiving a SCT as opposed to establishing a maintenance therapy without a SCT? Dr. Berenson is the leading advocate against SCT but the field of myeloma specialists is divided at about 60 percent in favor and 40 percent against. I believe the number in favor is actually higher… read more

Do FISH Results Showing Chromosome Deletions And Alterations Ever Change Back To Normal As A Result Of Chemo Treatments?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Husband's most recent cytology report from his bone marrow biopsy said "Normal Male Karyotype, no clonal abnormalities detected." A FISH analysis was not done on this biopsy, probably because there were no abnormalities, but the original Fish analysis on the biopsy done at diagnosis, showed multiple chromosome deletions and alterations, leading to a "high risk" prognosis. This is also puzzling, since we were told that "high risk" suggests that the usual therapies do not work and multiple… read more
