My Dr wants to put me on Xgeva to help strengthen my bones. I’m in final cycle of extended drug treatment but have been in remission for the past 6 months with no signs of any bone weakening issues.
After reading up on these drugs and listening to recent Webinar on this subject from Myeloma Crowd, side effects can develop bone issues in the jaw.
Has anyone had any issues from these drugs since I’m leaning to op out of having this injection.
Appreciate your feedback.
Jim
Told my hematologists about all the pain I’ve been having in random places and his suggestion was a steroid taper? Anyone else take a steroid for bone pain?

Has anyone had bone problems with their jaw after taking Xgeva? If so how soon did it happen? I am only on my third treatment and have a tingling sensation in my upper left jaw. Is there an alternative drug that doesn't carry the same risks?

My original oncologist has prescribed Zometa every four weeks. While traveling, I needed to make an appointment with a temporary oncologist to receive the infusions. The new oncologist, after reviewing my medical records, said there is no reason for me to get these infusions, since I have no bone lesions. I was newly diagnosed with mgus, a few months ago, my blood results are only slightly out of range, and I have had only one infusion so far. Which doctor should I believe? Should I get yet… read more
Hubby just diagnosed with ONJ. He has no pain, but dentist found exposed bone and infection in the gum. Referred to oral surgeon, but can't get in for two months. Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced this. Oncologist put him on antibiotic, clindamyicin, but that has bad side effects long term, so not anxious to stay on that forever. Cause is probably the Xgeva he was on for a year, but has been off for nearly a year. Thanks for any input from all of you.
It’s to help increase WBC.
