Driving Myeloma Numbers Down To MRD, Then What?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone spoken to their oncologist about how the MM treatments are (hopefully) driving the numbers down to minimal residual disease but doesn’t address the genetic mutation in the bone marrow that’s producing the abnormal cells? Hence, MM comes back over time. We’re so focused on treating the disease with pills and injections, and new drugs for treatment that I never hear what the researchers are focused on to actually cure the disease.

This is the first paper I’ve read which addresses… read more

The CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology, for which biochemists Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
The technology is amazing. Crispr literally cut the damage part of the DNA sequence out of the strand and can insert new and undamaged code sequence. I would encourage you to read up on this fascinating technology.

Hi Jamie Wickham, I think my doctors do look at my myeloma genetics. I have had MRD testing yearly on my bone marrow biopsies. I was told that since I had higher risk disease, transplant was the best option for me. My doctor also told me that since I also have 11:14 translocation, Ventoclax might be an option for me. I don't understand CRISper technology, but I hope we all live to see a cure. I also want people to know that MRD testing on peripheral blood is not as accurate as MRD on bone marrow. There is a peripheral blood test in the works, but it is 2 years away. I was also told that being MRD negative does not mean we can get off treatment. Sorry, I got sidetracked💜

I think we all (City Governments should start then I think it would spread nationwide) should go back to GLASS containers that could be recycled and used for liquids and containers for food. Go back to natural pest control, (which they have and my granddaddy made and used) and stop with the chemicals and plastic everything. Our diseases concerning tumors and blood issues I THINK are caused by these things. Our water systems have chemical pollution that we are usually unaware of and resorting to water filters does not guarantee that it is pure water. OK off of my soap box (for now) hahaha I have just been dwelling on all of this. I have downloaded complete articles from the Government Medical Library website all about Myeloma today. VERY informative. "Teece"

I agree. They need to figure out why our bone marrow makes these monoclonal cells in the first place. Thanks for posting this link Jamie💕

Jamie,
I was watching a talk on MMRF and they said Emory is looking into the gut biome to see if changing it will help with MM. Sorry I don’t have the link.
