How long does it take for MGUS to progress to Multiple Myeloma
After watching some of Dr Brandy’s talks online, I was amazed at how smart he is. He has MM too and is doing quite well.
No it doesn't mean you will get myeloma. My older sister has had MGUS for 10 years. She is fine. I'm the one with the high risk myeloma. You can Google the stats on MGUS going into myeloma. The great… read more
I have MGUS currently and interested in supplements to prevent progression
Thank you Tricia. I think that is why people take curcumin supplements (tumeric) because to get the recommended amount of tumeric you would have to eat a ton! thank you for your response!
Generally good. Aches & pains as anyone my age.
Hi Chris,
I depends on what type. Most cases of MGUS do not progress. I have a more high risk type, so I progressed to Smoldering.

Question I have:
Should I be in this group if I only have SMM. Everyone else in here has MM. Just confused and concerned, but this group is very helpful in gathering information. On what I might be experiencing at a later time........
I started at MGUS 7 years but now at SMM just 3 months blood work
@A MyMyelomaTeam Member Having high IgA, your question interested me enough to look it up. Here's a link to an article although I'll freely admit I understand about 10% of it at best. Yes, there are… read more
When one is diagnosed with MM, is MGUS and/or Smoldering MM always a precursor which goes undiagnosed until the full-blown MM diagnosis? Just wondering how long before my husband's MM diagnosis in March 2019 might he have had MGUS and/or Smoldering MM and no one identified it. He is of the opinion that he had it long before, since the pelvic lesions and the spine vertebrae deteriorations had advanced so far.
I was never diagnosed with MGUS. I went right to SMM then active
Or had SMM for some time and haven't progressed.
I'm told I have a 50% chance of progressing in the first 5 years.
And 70% over 10 years. I'm not sure what my odds are of hitting a dear with all the country driving I do. I'm signing up for a clinical trial that tries to prevent progression.
I think that it is great to participate in a clinical study with SMM. The theory is that treatment at this stage may actually curative. In my case, I went from MGUS to SMM to active MM in a 10 month… read more
Harry! Lol. It's not enough. My mom took 3-4 heaping teaspoons of Nutritional Yeast a day. Mixed with juice. Not beer. Lol. Lots of B vitamins to prevent neuropathy and support your immune system and… read more
Anyone first diagnosed with MGUS and later with SMM or MM? Although I know not everyone with MGUS will progress, I am curious about ones that have. Like how long was progression from MGUS to SMM or MM? What diagnostic tests were done for you with MGUS? Is a bone marrow biopsy standard procedure with MGUS, or just after SMM or MM diagnosis?
I am considered high risk MGUS, have some concerning symptoms, and my oldest brother had MM and a sister had biphenotypic leukemia. Although I really… read more
