Smoldering Multiple Myleoma
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Question I have:
Should I be in this group if I only have SMM. Everyone else in here has MM. Just confused and concerned, but this group is very helpful in gathering information. On what I might be experiencing at a later time........

Hello Vince,
Looks like you posted your question about 10 months ago. How are you doing now? I went from smothering to MM in about in about 9 months myself. I’ve read that about half of those diagnosed with SMM, will develop into multiple myeloma within 5 years depending on your genetic risk factor- Low/Med/High. Hope your condition stays at smothering for decades to come!

James, thank you very much. I hope you are doing well. Fir myself I’m doing good. I’m in the med part of SMM, my oncologist and I decided to start treat IOT try to prevent the Cancer to progressing to full MM.
so far it’s working I’m currently on my 8th Oral Cycle of my CHEMO meds.
I feel ok most of the days but at times it’s kinda of ruff. I think it’s because I’m recovering from a double bypass as well. So concerning two little speed bumps . While also deployed.
Thank you for adding me.
Need all the support I can get.
I just hate to ask for help.
Even when I know I need it.

Yes be in the group. Here is what happened to me. I had MGUS for 30 years. I went from MGUS to SMM to MM in 4 months. I just completed my autologous SCT last week following 10 weeks of induction therapy. My point is you don’t know when or why but close blood work follow up and learning from others really helps. If you find it valuable, the remain in the group. Jan

You belong for sure. I have high risk and been smoldering for 10 years. Get blood and urine checked every 3 months. My immune system is screwed up. But I take IVIG and I don't need antibiotics and steroids anymore. Never had chemo yet. I have 40 percent Cancer cells with a bone marrow biopsy. Get this done once a year, and a pet scan once a year to make sure there is no myeloma in any part of your body. God bless.

Vince, are you low risk smoldering myeloma? I am low risk so hoping to stay here long as possible. I learn so much on line and like you wondered if I should I be on here if I’m not undergoing treatment.
