Are you experiencing fever while taking lenalidomide?
Fever is a known side effect of lenalidomide that affects at least 20 percent of people taking this medication. However, it's important to contact your doctor right away, especially if you're also experiencing other symptoms.
High fever combined with low blood cell counts can be a serious side effect that requires immediate medical attention. This combination can indicate a severe infection or other complications.
When to seek immediate help:
- Fever with chills or feeling very unwell
- Signs of infection (respiratory tract infections and digestive tract infections are common with lenalidomide)
- Any new or worsening symptoms alongside the fever
Your healthcare team can check your blood counts and determine whether the fever is related to the medication, an infection, or another cause. They may adjust your treatment or provide supportive care to help you feel better.
Don't wait to reach out—it's always better to have your doctor evaluate a fever, especially when you're on active myeloma treatment.
