Hi Brad,
I have IgA Kappa. My IgA is 568 mg/dL. The normal range is 76-426 mg/dL. So, you either have IgA Kappa or IgA Lambda. Kappa and Lambda have their own values. Kappa can clog the kidney filters. Your IgA number is only one number of many tests. CRAB (Calcium, Renal, Anemia, Bones) BCMA and M Protein all play a part in determining what Stage you are. I am in the Smoldering Stage. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation can help inform you about your MM. HTTPS://www.themmrf.org/ They also have counselors you can talk to.
This site also has lots of information and resources. Everyone on this site has similar and unique experiences to share and want to be of help to you. Make sure to share your story on your page, so others can read it and connect with you.

What does "IgA heavy chain detected" mean?

IgA (immunoglobulin A) is a type of antibody protein. When IgA heavy chain is detected in myeloma, it means your plasma cells are producing abnormal antibodies made from IgA heavy chains.

IgA myeloma is the second most common type of myeloma, affecting about 1 out of 5 people with the condition. The abnormal IgA proteins are called M protein (or monoclonal protein), and they don't fight infections like normal antibodies do.

What does 1450 mg/dL mean?

The 1450 mg/dL measurement represents the level of IgA protein in your blood. This is measured through a quantitative immunoglobulins test, which shows the amount of both normal and abnormal versions of heavy chain proteins.

This test helps doctors:
- Determine the stage of myeloma at diagnosis
- Monitor whether treatment is working
- Track disease progression over time

Higher M protein levels generally indicate more active disease. Your healthcare team will use this number along with other test results to guide your treatment plan and monitor your response to therapy.

It's worth noting that measuring IgA levels can be helpful for tracking disease over time, especially since other tests like SPEP can sometimes be harder to use for IgA myeloma specifically.
