For medication options, speak with your doctor about both over-the-counter and prescription medications that may help. Some people find relief with medications like loperamide (Imodium) or cholestyramine, but only take these as directed by your healthcare team. Diet modifications can make a big difference. Try incorporating:
- Well-cooked vegetables
- Peeled canned fruits
- White rice
- Yogurt
- Lean, skinless baked or broiled meats
- Smooth peanut butter
- White bread
- Cooked eggs (not fried)
Keeping a food diary can help you identify trigger foods. If diarrhea becomes severe, your doctor might need to adjust your treatment plan. Always consult your oncologist before making any changes to your diet or taking new medications, even over-the-counter ones.
