Hydration and loss of minerals were a cause of severe muscle cramps(Charlie Horses). I successfully addressed them by drinking cocoanut water or unflavored generic Pedialite available at our drug store. I eat bananas and walnuts in protein cereals too. I avoid artificial sweeteners such as Stevia and aspartame as they upset my stomach. I hope this helps.
