I love the answer that from MMT. Two to three weeks in hospital? What hospital? I had my SCT at NYU in NYC in June 2024. Two days pre SCT, one day SCT, one day post-SCT for a total of four days. Released on the fifth day after breakfast.

Fortunately my doc's homebase was at NYU in Mineloa, Long Island. I stayed at my brother's in Lynbrook, Long Island which was only 20-30 minutes from the facility for four weeks, where he, my sister-in-law and nephew drove me for the post-transplant care.

If not for that, I probably would have had to book a hotel room near the facility and drive there. Although, they didn't really want me driving for several weeks, then I guess Uber. $$$, but it is what it is. However, to deal with it by oneself right after transplant, I don't see how it could be done for the first three weeks. By the fourth week, I started getting strength back and had less nausea.

By August 2024 I was back in Brooklyn and handling everything on my own. First six months I had to use extreme caution because of the comprised inmune system, but I did alright and two plus years later, here I am.

I would have made a lot of phone calls and hoped a friend on Long Island could have helped.

Support after SCT is very important. You won’t be able to drive or take care of yourself. Weigh this decision carefully. Quad therapy is now doing just as well as Stem Cell Transplant. Talk to the doctors. A Stem Cell Transplant will wipe out your immune system, so you will need backup help for a long time. There are Agencies you could hire, but in my experience, when there is a shift change, sometimes the next person does not show up. I have paid caregivers $38-42 dollars an hour. It gets costly 24/7.
