My mom (71) has been diagnosed 2 years ago but only started getting sick in February. Since then, she was feeling good after 2 months of treatment but now she's back at the hospital and the first line of treatment stopped working. They are about to start Blenrep tomorrow. At first they told us people live a long life now with MM and that its even considered a chronic disease. That she could live to her normal life expectancy as there are many new treatments. Then they told us 10+ years and now… read more
My first oncologist told me I responded to treatment ( induction), faster than any of his patients; not bedside manner talk. After 3 months, I was in remission. However he kept me on Revlimid, Velcade, and ...that bone protection infusion ( blanking out on the name), finished induction and started maintenance. He retired and his replacement, after a brief few months, let me take a vacation from treatment, to see what happens. I've been off treatment since 2021 Recently, my newest oncologist reduced my blood tests and scan to every 6 months;instead of every 3 months. I have a bit of a concern with the new visits because of a lesion on my skull. It has been a short time since its discovery, ergo the concern.... Last scan showed it was stable ( 2 MRI scans and the one original CT scan), sooooo..... I hope it stays stable
I do ramble, huh? 😉😬
Zometa....that's what I was trying to think of. A little birdie reminded me; a member in here. Thank YOU!!
Rachel,
She was diagnosed 2 years ago but just started treatment 2 months ago? Does this mean she got no treatment after diagnosis? Sorry, just trying to understand. Does she have any high risk genetics? Did they first treat her with Darzalex? Sometimes the drug does not match the MM she has. Hopefully they will find one that works for her. I have 2 cousins with MM. one has had it for over 20 years, and the other for over 10 years. They have been on many lines of therapy. Ask questions about Car-T. I’ve read that women have more bad reactions to it than men do. Age and fitness matter with these treatments.

Well done you, that's the way to go!
I was given 'six months, maybe' in 2008. I've been off chemo since 2010, with annual bloodwork. I'm 84, and MM took both knees and 6' off my spine.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 MM in March '24 and given 18 months to live. I am still here and doing great. Working a full time job & exercising plenty.
