I take all of the supplements talked about but the thing that helped me more than anything was adding an electrolyte product- LMNT. I had been suffering from severe spasms and muscle cramps. It virtually stopped it all. I have been taking it for over a year. I had checked with my naturopath before starting.

What supplements might help with widespread muscle locking and spasms?

If you're experiencing muscle cramps and spasms throughout your body, several supplements may help, but it's crucial to talk with your doctor first since some can interact with myeloma treatments.

Commonly recommended supplements include:

- Magnesium (especially magnesium citrate) - helps regulate muscle contraction and relaxation
- Potassium - acts as a natural muscle relaxant
- Vitamin B complex - supports nerve function and may reduce spasms
- Vitamin D - can reduce fracture risk and support overall muscle health
- Electrolytes - help maintain proper muscle function

A MyMyelomaTeam member shared: "I also had severe muscle cramps in my legs, feet, and hands. My oncologist made changes to my treatment plan, and they almost went away completely. I also take electrolytes and magnesium citrate."

Another member noted: "Our daughter, a nurse, told us to try a good vitamin B complex and amino acids. It helped my husband more than the anticonvulsant (and doesn't have bad side effects)." Important cautions:

Always consult your oncology team before starting any new supplement. Some may interfere with your myeloma medications or cause unwanted side effects. Your doctor may want to do blood tests to check if you're deficient in certain minerals before recommending supplements.

Staying well hydrated is also essential, though you should discuss safe water intake with your doctor since myeloma can affect kidney function.

Angie,
ValAsta told me to start of by taking 3 mg of Astaxanthin. When I started getting loose, it skip a day, then start again. Now I am taking it everyday without a problem. Soon I will start taking a higher dose.

I took super K which has K1 and K2 also D3. I was taking astaxanthin cause it caused my EGFR to go up to 80 but taking one 12 mg gel cap everyday it caused diarrhea next thing I knew was I was dehydrated and needed electrolytes so I started drinking pedialyte eating bananas and taking magnesium citrate gummies to build up my electrolytes then started feeling better.
Thank you Larry for the tip!
