I have also been on Zometa for 3 years and so far so good🥰
I was on zometa for 3 years. No problems at all with my jaw or dental visits. Just had a root canal and crown put in. All good! If I needed an extraction I was told I would be taken off it for a month, and then it wouldn't be a problem. I have my teeth cleaned every 6 months. Hopefully I wont have to have anything major done, but I've been off zometa for almost 4 years now and have been assured there would be no problem if I did have one.
Zometa made me feel like I had the flu all the time. Then switched to Aredia and no issues.
I had Zometa for 2 years. It can cause osteonecrosis of the jaw. I had dental x-rays and got a clearance from the dentist before I started the drug. They don't want us doing teeth extractions while we are on it. Routine cleanings are fine. Of course we must have excellent dental hygiene and not use tobacco products.
It can cause our calcium to go a little too low temporarily. I got some tingling around my mouth. Chewing tums takes care of it. Talk to your doctor. It's up to you to decide if the benefits outweigh the risks.🥰
Ruth,
I refused zoledronic acid because in MM patients it causes osteonecrosis of the jaw and brittle bones after using it for years. I chose a natural way to support my bones. Calcium, magnesium, D3, K2, Vitamins C, A and E complex. I like MRM Bone Maximizer III and take extra D3 and K2 since MM is constantly breaking down the bones. After 7 years, I can say it is working. This protocol has actually brought my calcium levels down, which is good!
