Squats are good for balance and stretching.
I use arm weights at home. Every little bit helps. Building muscle is a good way to control our weight. That's a strong motivation for me.
Ironically, you asked, I went to do my monthly labs and the Phlebotomist said he could tell, I was working out from my veins and my blood draw went well. I don't go to the gym yet due to recent SCT but I lift a very small amount of weights because I want shapely arms, so strength training does help. Good Luck
