Members rallied around the topic of exercise as a key tool in fighting and recovering from Multiple Myeloma, with many sharing personal stories of regaining strength, muscle mass, and energy through consistent movement. Several members highlighted specific programs and resources that helped them, including the free LiveStrong program at the YMCA, CancerFit at Reid Cancer Center, and Planet Fitness through Silver Sneakers insurance coverage. A recurring theme was that staying active, even through setbacks like injuries or treatment side effects, made a meaningful difference in physical recovery, mood, and immune health, supported by shared research from Roswell Park on exercise and MM.

Planet Fitness is free to seniors with Silver Sneakers or similar insurance.

In July 2022, after my 7 months of Treatments devastated my muscles (3 months of Induction and 4 months of reduced Maintenance) that reduced me to a walker and transport chair for about two months and then I required a cane, I went to Planet Fitness for 3 months, 7 days a week (after stopping All MM Meds as my clonoSEQ Blood test showed I was MRD Negative) and regained my weight and strength and started back to golfing, in late 2022.

I have been participating in the CancerFit program offered at Reid Cancer Center in Richmond, Indiana, for the past 4 years. I believe the program has increased my muscle mass, improved my balance, and offered a unique comaraderie with other cancer patients. I wish every cancer center offered it. This article reinforces my belief in the importance of a program like this.

I just finished a free exercise program "Live Strong" offered for cancer survivors at the YMCA. It really helped me feel better but then brought out other issues foot bone spur and groin hernia acted up. The last few days had to do minimum like using the upper body exercises only. I did actually notice my muscles firm up
