Members shared practical advice for protecting kidneys affected by multiple myeloma, with the most consistent recommendation being to drink plenty of water daily, with many suggesting 2 to 3 liters or about 96 ounces per day. Several members also warned against taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen sodium, as these are hard on the kidneys, and stressed the importance of working closely with both a nephrologist and oncologist. A recurring theme was staying proactive through hydration, gentle daily exercise, avoiding unapproved supplements, and always consulting your doctor before making changes.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member,
I would be careful of drinking too much softened water since it contains salt and salt is not good for the kidneys. I buy cases of Mountain Valley Spring Water from Sprouts, but MVSW does home delivery too. The bottles are glass.

Like everyone is saying, drink plenty of water. I found that I can consume more water that is cool or room temp than drinking ice cold water. If your kidney levels are functioning in a normal range and your not under any treatment then I wouldn't worry about the kidneys. Still not a bad idea to drink the daily recommended, 9-11 cups a day for women, especially in the summer. Note: This is my opinion, please consult your doctor.

I would only recommend 2litres per day. I believe if you drink too much your heart may not be able to cope well with excess fluid around the heart. This may depend on age as well and what your kidneys are up to. Always ask your Doctor.
