Hi, I have MGUS (low risk according to all parameters, but I have a t(14;16) translocation and high CTCs). I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and have been offered either lumpectomy with radiotherapy OR mastectomy with reconstruction (and no radiotherapy). I am considering many factors, and one of them is whether breast implants can trigger or accelerate progression to SMM/MM. I worry because I have read some scary reports about this. I would love some expert advice because I have not been… read more

Back in April 1985 I stupidly elected to have silicone breast implants due to best friend raving about going from size double A’s to triple D’s walked in my room and was showing them off and my 2nd husband Jeff going bonkers for me to get them too being an oilfield man working offshore and all they watched was porn movies on their breaks. Anyway like a lamb to the slaughter I had it done also. It did increase my self confidence some course I went from a B to a C so not that noticeable really but I had to always be so careful not to bust them in every thing I did.
I did not have any health issues at all until I got older 68 and was diagnosed with mm and I still wonder if they could be the guilty culprit.
My advice to any young girl is love what you have you don’t know what these implants can cause years down the road just like me right now I might be perfectly healthy if not for that mistake I made.
Please don’t let a crazy friend or a senseless man cause you to be unhappy with what you have it’s really not worth it!!!!

Hello. I definitely understand your fear. I feel the same way. How old were you when diagnosed? My doctor told me the downside for me is time. I have many years for this to progress vs if I had this being 70s.

Hi Katrina. I have had it for 6 years and it remains stable. MGUS possible progression worries me much more than the tumor in the breast
