Hi, I have MGUS (low risk according to all parameters, but I have a t(14;16) translocation and high CTCs). I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and have been offered either lumpectomy with radiotherapy OR mastectomy with reconstruction (and no radiotherapy). I am considering many factors, and one of them is whether radiotherapy can trigger or accelerate progression to SMM/MM. I worry because I know a percentage of the high radiation dose received in the breast reaches the ribs (I have been… read more
Hi Isa,
I see you have t(14;16) like me. I am not a doctor, but I watched my 90 year old Aunt die from too much chemotherapy and radiation for her breast cancer. If she had just had a lumpectomy, I believe she would have died naturally before it came back. Talk to your MM Specialist. T(14;16) used to be high risk. Now they have changed that, but it means we will progress quicker than others. I think quality of life is really important.

Unfortunately this link did not work. I printed the article but was trying to find the link for you.
Isabel,
I found an article I think might be helpful. Published by BLOOD CANCER JOURNAL (2024) TITLED: Translocation t(14:16) in multiple myeloma: gangster or just part of the gang? HTTPS://doi.org/10.1038/s4108-024-00978-z
They talk about how recently it’s been said in articles, that t(14:16) does not have a prognostic value anymore. They refute that statement and say, “ the preponderance of evidence suggest it is a high risk marker, and one of the ones with the greatest impact on outcomes. “ This is probably not what you want to hear, but remember, there are many factors influencing outcome.

Can any type of cancer can cause other cancer to switch let say l have a cousin who now having a stomach cancer at the moment and now the doctor told that the cancer has changed to brain cancer. Now the treatment is in very serious condition cannot be treated anymore because now she had to eat or drink by using the tube from the nose and she only 45 years old and had 3 children which the oldest is 7 years old
What l thinking now can MM cancer can cause to change or will be another cancer may we get it.
Now I praying that l had this MM is enough for me and thanks to God that my condition now is stable from the side of MM situation
And l will always praying for the MMTEAM that we can manage or take care of our sickness
We can do it and never give up guys 🌹
