Carfilzomib
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello out there!!
I just had to switch off Revlimid because I broke out with terrible hives, and now my oncologist wants me to try Carfilzomib. Has anyone out there been on or is being treated with this drug. If so then I would love your feedback!!
Pros and Cons.

I'm on Kyprolis and Pomalyst. This regimen works well for me. No problems really. Knocked down this Myeloma 60% (I only got 20% from the REVLIMID) then had my SCT just 8 months ago, and now I'm on Pomalyst and Kyprolis maitanance. I really don't have any side effects. After infusion day I get a little headache and backache but that only lasts a few hours. But thats really it for me. Goodluck you should be ok 👍

I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Igg Lambda June, 2020. After being on Revlimid, Dexamethasone and Kyprolis (Carfilzomib) IV for 6mo. I broke out with a bright red, non-itchy rash around my torso due to the Revlimid. My oncologist took me off of the Revlimid and since my M-spike went to 0, it was determined I was in remission as of Sept. 2020. For maintenance he put me on IV Kyprolis every two weeks. The only side effects I experienced from the Kyprolis was a headache and some constipation and fatigue for a few days after the infusion. Of course, side effects can be unique to each patient, but my experience was not bad at all. I remained in remission until December, 2022 when my M-spike went up. I'm now on another treatment program with two other chemo drugs that I just started yesterday. so far, so good!
One day at a time, my friend! Sending prayers an best wishes to you on your journey through these unknowns.

I didn’t have any reaction to Revlimed which I took before n after my SCT. My oncologist switched me to Pomylst a year later to better control cancer. I have read that Pomylst has less other medical issues. Have had no problem taking it.

I also broke out in hives all over my body when I first went on Revlimid. My oncologist took me off it for 10 days. When I started back up with it, my body tolerated it well. I was on the (VRD) Velcade, Revlimid, Dexamethasone regimen at that time. That regimen worked for a while, but later on it did not produce the desired results with the M spike protein. I’m now on a Kyprolis and Pomalyst regimen following completion of a stem cell transplant in July 2022. My numbers are looking pretty good right now and I’m tolerating the Kyprolis infusions pretty well. I’m getting it 2 days a week on Wednesday and Thursday. One week on, the next week off. I hope this helps you with your treatments.
