Linda,
Your question has come up a few times. The answer comes from my experience, what I remember others have said and AI. Button down shirts or zipped tops. Loose fitting pants or sweats or pajamas. Socks. Non-skid slippers. Bring layers of clothing. Bathrobe. Eyeglasses, lotions, baby shampoo, soft toothbrush, toothpaste, soft hats, phone, IPad or laptop, headphones, earbuds, earplugs!, books, magazines, puzzles, journals, photos, blanket, contact list of relatives, doctors, caregivers. Since I have food allergies, I would bring approved food. I hope this helps.

Thank you. What did you pack for the stay in the hospital for SCT?

The time during induction to get through all these appointments and the stress you feel getting ready is overwhelming. Then the shots, getting the VasoCath put in and stem cell extraction will fatigue you. Also, I was cleaning and decluttering home for when I came home. Add to that getting things together to take with you. I worked out every other day. Walked on off days.working out 7 days may be too much. When you go to SCT walking, stretching and exercise bands will help. Some days you may not feel like all that. Try to go for walks when you can. You will get through this. If you have any questions about while in SCT feel free to reach out to me. I did mine in May of this year. Lynn

Feeling increasingly tired between induction and your stem cell transplant (SCT) is very common — and honestly, given everything your body is going through, it makes a lot of sense. Even with a strong fitness baseline like yours, myeloma-related fatigue can still hit hard.

There are several reasons fatigue tends to build during this period:

- Anemia — myeloma disrupts bone marrow, reducing red blood cells that carry oxygen
- Cytokines — inflammatory proteins released in response to myeloma can cause a deep, lingering tiredness
- Treatment side effects — induction therapy itself is a major contributor
- Emotional stress — the weight of diagnosis and anticipating a transplant takes a real toll too One MyMyelomaTeam member shared, "I never realized how exhausting it is to do laundry — I keep having to stop and rest."

Your fitness background is genuinely a huge asset heading into SCT. Here are some ways members manage fatigue during this window:

- Keep moving, but adjust intensity — light to moderate exercise, both cardio and resistance, has been shown to help with fatigue. Your body may just need a lower gear right now
- Prioritize activities — pick one or two meaningful things each day rather than pushing through everything
- Rest without guilt — one member put it well: "Take it easy and don't overdo it. Your body is telling you to relax!"
- Sleep hygiene — consistent routines can prevent fatigue from worsening

The encouraging news is that as treatment progresses and myeloma responds, energy levels often follow. Your medical team can also help identify if something specific, like anemia, is driving the fatigue and address it directly.
