clonoSEQ.com has a Blood Test that can detect No Cancer per Million Cells tested (10 -6).
There’s cases where a few cells, 2 or less, can temporarily be detected.
I get this clonoSEQ Blood Test quarterly. I had the Flu this past January. It caused a tiny False MSpike of 0.05 that disappeared in two months and a clonoSEQ result in one of my two DNA Strands of “greater than zero and less than two”. This was also False since it was gone three months later (my next test).
Since all my Labs were good, especially my inflammation markers of B2M, LDH, CRP and the SPEP showed the MSpike was in the IgG band, not my IgA band of my original MM, all of this pointed to my markers as False.
It’s important to not overreact and immediately resume Treatments, but rather to carefully Monitor Monthly Labs and the Quarterly clonoSEQ to determine if it’s an actual MM Activity or a False Positive that will disappear on its own.
Over my last 5 years I’ve had Two False Positives and during my Bone Lesion Tumor (single Plasmacytoma), one active Case where the clonoSEQ Blood Test saw this new Activity months before my routine Labs showed anything.
Great question! Remission in myeloma means that treatment has reduced cancer levels so much that no signs of it show up on tests. There are two main types:
- Partial remission — Some cancer cells remain, but the disease is less active and symptoms improve
- Complete remission — No cancer is found in blood tests or imaging Show Full Answer
Have you had a MRD test? If you were not negative, then you are not in remission. There is also a ClonoSEQ test to check for remission.

Wow never heard of getting a false positive because of the flu. At least once a year I get a false positive for kidney failure so I guess I would never trust one test result
Thank you!
