It's wonderful to hear that two years in, things are going well and that staying on top of the treatment plan is making a difference — that really does matter!

For light chain multiple myeloma (LCMM) specifically, survival can sometimes be a little shorter than for myeloma overall, possibly by around two years. This is often linked to the impact light chains can have on the kidneys.

For myeloma overall, the general five-year survival rate is around 61 percent. However, these are population-level statistics and don't reflect any one individual's journey. At 78, age is one factor doctors consider, but overall health and how well someone is responding to treatment are just as important. Here are some things that tend to point toward a better outlook:

- Responding well to treatment (which sounds like the case here!)
- Staying consistent with the treatment plan
- A later or slower relapse, rather than an early one
- Achieving remission or even MRD-negative status

The fact that treatment is working and there's a commitment to following the plan are genuinely positive signs. Treatments are also improving all the time, with newer therapies helping people live longer and with better quality of life.

A conversation with the oncology team about personal prognosis will always give the most tailored picture — they know the full details best.
