Vicki, I had that problem and doctor just has to code it right. I am sure you only need Vit, D3 tested mabe every 3 or 4 months, good luck

I’ve had my Vit D3 tested and covered by Medicare since I was on it. I had osteopenia as a diagnosis.
You can file an appeal with Medicare to try and get the $270 back. You’ll need your receipts.

I am tested at least once a year for my physical. I’ve been tested by other specialists and it’s never been a problem. It’s like someone said, the coding has to be correct.

I still get full monthly Labs that include my Vit D3. Medicare pushed back well over 6 months ago saying they only wanted to cover it every 3 months.

My Onc says Vit D3 at the higher levels I keep (85ng to 100ng) range is a good thing since MM attacks bones and that higher D3 helps to protect them and many other aspects of our health.

So far I’ve not been charged but I think it’s that my Onc fights back and in some cases simply absorbs some of it.

Thanks for answering my question so quickly. Your response helped me so much. Now I know it's possible for Medicare to cover the cost of vitamin D3. AI said it was, but AI makes so many mistakes. The trust factor just wasn't there completely. Anyhow, I called my doctor's billing dept and described my situation to them. The assistant said she would submit my info to the person who handles billing and get back to me.

It was in Dec 2024 when I paid Quest $270 for the vitamin D3 test and after that I paid $30 - $50 at 3rd party labs for it. I know I can't receive that money back, but it would be nice if I could receive the $270 back and most of all, not have to pay for vitamin D3 test again.

Is this your situation?..You don't have to pay for vitamin D3 tests. Were you diagnosed with osteoporosis? Is that why you don't have to pay? I looked at my medical records in my doctors portal and saw that he never diagnosed me with osteoporosis. In 2024, he referred me for a DEXA scan which showed severe osteoporosis.

He wanted to treat me with Prolia, but I told him I wanted to rebuild my bones with exercise. He didn't like that. He said I was too far gone. Now, I am very strong. My DEXA may not be in the normal range yet, but I'm sure it's much better than before.
