Members discussed whether K2 is needed alongside calcium shots for multiple myeloma, with many agreeing that Vitamins D3, K2, and magnesium work together to direct calcium into bones rather than arteries. Several members shared personal supplement routines and encouraged others to consult their oncologist before starting anything new, especially for those on clinical trials where certain supplements may not be allowed. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy and open communication between patients and their care teams when managing complex conditions alongside MM.

Vitamin D does so much to support our immune system, estimated 42%of adults are vitamin d deficient. Asked to have mine checked, was 13.Normal is 20-50 ng/ml. I have been less sick since my level is up. My husband is the one with MM, so my getting sick less is beneficial to him.

My husbands calcium levels are normal, but he takes Vit D + K2 and magnesium. Vit D helps your body absorb and use calcium effectively (in your bones, not your coronary arteries) Magnesium helps activate the Vit D. Always consult your Dr before adding any supplements. My husband already has heart disease, so protecting his heart and keeping his bones strong at the same time.

Vit D3 is very important to keep at the level of 80ng to 95ng. Then Vit K2-MK-7 activates D3 to full calcium out of the blood stream and into the Bones.

I monitor my D3 Monthly and randlmly adjust between 5,000 to 10,000IU of D3 daily. I get about 300mcg (micrograms) of Vit K2-MK-7 daily (Life Extension K2 combo provides 183mcg of the K2-MK-7 and an additional 100mcg K2-MK-7 capsule)

Many people in general are very deficient in Vit D3, and quite often for those with MM. I was originally very deficient in D3 for a very long time.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member I didn’t see an answer to your dilemma. I’m just starting this MM journey. I pray I don’t face a similar dilemma. As I start, my thought is my MM oncologist is the lead, the one in charge so his opinion will have to rule. BUT metastatic prostate cancer is also serious! One thought is to tell both doctors they have you between a rock and a hard place! What would they do if they were you? Or if their brother/best friend if not themselves were in your situation. Ask what’s the downside to going against taking the supplement or not? I’m praying for clarity for you! ✝️🙏🛐

Greg, you might need to, but you will have to ask your doctor.
