Members responded with great empathy to the challenge of maintaining a steady weight during multiple myeloma treatment, sharing that weight loss and appetite changes are very common experiences throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Several members offered practical strategies including protein shakes, probiotic yogurt, nutritional yeast for B vitamins, anti-inflammatory foods like quinoa and sweet potatoes, and high-protein ice cream options to help with weight goals. A recurring theme was the importance of staying physically active through gentle strength training or walking, with many members encouraging one another to keep moving even in small ways, reminding each other that staying strong helps the body better tolerate treatment.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member Deb, like me, you're dealing with our situation on your own. Makes it more difficult, of that there's no doubt. You should find a gym that offers senior exercise programs that have classes with a good trainer. You just have to get motivated, easier said than done, but it is the first step. Once you get started, it becomes like an addiction. You will look and feel better. Believe me, you'll think less about our situation and more about getting back to living.
Not everyday comes up roses for me, but without my diligence for exercise and proper diet, there's no doubt in my mind, there would be more thorns than roses.
YOU CAN DO IT!

Are you taking any probiotics, prebiotics or yogurt with live cultures? It might helped to get your gut healed and able to absorb nutrients.

Wow! I need to lose 30 lbs but I have little success. I’m trying to lose 2 lbs a month because 10 months post transplant my hem/onc does not want me on any kind of weight loss plan. I am on a Mediterranean diet. When I am traveling for work this is a little bit harder.

Before finally diagnosed I lost lots of weight with the pain (was down to 47 kg) and after diagnosis and with pain gone I struggled to put on weight. After 4 years am at 58 kg. Am fine with this and am just on maintenance with Lenalidomide - no SCT. Being a healthy weight is so important.

want to share a little update about my journey. Recently I went for a CT scan of my lungs, and today the doctor explained the results to me. They found some changes in my left lung compared to before. There are areas where the lung lining looks thicker, and a small mass in the lower part of the left lung has grown a bit since my last scan. Because of these changes, the doctors want to do another test called a bronchoscopy, where they use a small camera to look inside the airways and take samples to understand it better. Hearing all this was not easy for me. It made me emotional because it feels like one thing after another. But at the same time, I am thankful that I am already under medical care and the doctors are taking steps to find out exactly what
