Parathyroid issues are linked to kidney function. No, a Parathyroidectomy is not typically a treatment for myeloma. It is a treatment for kidney dysfunction. Your high calcium levels are concerning. It could be from your myeloma or kidney issues. It certainly needs to be evaluated by a myeloma specialist, a nephrologist and an endocrinologist. It could have been, and most likely was, your myeloma that damaged your kidneys. The high calcium levels are actually a side effect of the myeloma that breaks down our bones. Our kidneys can get damaged from the high proteins and light chains that gum up our kidney tubules. It's can be a very complicated process. I hope you are able to preserve your kidney function and they can get your calcium levels back to normal🥰

My neurologist and endocrinologist feel that my brain injury plays are part in this. I had 3 blunt force trauma to my head within minutes of one another. My PCP kept telling me my brain injury makes me a mental patient. Therefore my thirst is psychological polydipsia. To ignore it. It took me 5 years to find a doctor to listen to me. A year of testing showed a damaged hypothalamus. Damaged kidneys critical calcium. I never thought to tell the endocrinologist about the lytic lesions, or my kappa protein. My oncologist saw the critical calcium but told me to see an endocrinologist. Now, seven years post brain injury my calcium is going up, my creatine and BUN are high and my eGFR is dropping on a regular basis. I also have ankylosis spondylitis and osteoporosis
My spine, hip, and SI pain can be unbearable. I tried palliative care but was told the " end of life injection" would be my best option. Now, yesterday I went to Hershey Park with my granddaughter and the rest of the family. I will not allow pain to stop me from living. Just to throw some extra goodies in to the pot I have thyroid cancer and uterine cancer. My kidneys cause a lot of pain from electrolyte Imbalances but nothing is shutting down. I feel that offer of the ,," end of life injection" was way out of line

My calcium levels were high, then I discovered that only taking calcium, magnesium and D3 was not enough. I had to take K2 also. The K2 supplements tells calcium to go to the bones instead of the soft tissue. @A MyMyelomaTeam Member takes 120mcg Vitamin K, and also 200 mcg of Vitamin K2 daily. Because MM can cause blood clots and Vitamin K increases that risk, I also take Vitamin E complex to thin my blood. If you are taking Eliquis, that may help. I am not a doctor, but I am just sharing that my calcium levels went back to normal when I added K2. I figured, if MM is breaking down my bones and putting the calcium in my bloodstream, why not take K2 and tell it to go back to my bones? So far, it’s working for me. After my eGFR was 59 or 60 for years, now it’s up in the 80”s. FYI, Dexamethasone helped reduce my mom’s tumors when she had ovarian cancer. I ended cutting the pill in quarters, because a 92 year old woman should not be up 24/7.

Thank you, I appreciate your giving that information. My nephrologist orders kidney function every other week. Unfortunately, my eGFR keeps dropping while my creatine keeps going up. The endocrinologist orders my dexa scans, my osteoporosis is significant. I guess that song we sang as kids " the ankle bone I connected to.." is so true
