About four different types.). I worked for four days but by the fourth day my legs hurt so bad that I had to start doubling up on my pain meds and I had a very hard time getting in and out of bed and excruciating pain trying to sit or get up from the toilet. All I could do was to stop for a week and stay in bed. Hopefully I can start again. Is this normal?

Shari,
I trimmed some roses and ivy out of my hedge today. I could barely walk afterwards. Now my thumb knuckle is swelling up. Pace yourself. I think most of us are the type to keep going ,but MM has other plans.

I do light exercise about 5 days a week in the morning. it really does help when a have to do long days of manual labor, whether it be washing and cleaning my car, or cleaning the house. I used to workout to get big muscles now it is for every day functioning, not hurting my back, not falling or even getting sick.

Shari, You've been doing a great job! I have learned to pace myself doing yard work, lol, and I do overdo it because I enjoy it.
You should see your doc for the pain and request an xray if it keeps up. I had a compound fracture in a disc I didn't know I had and it gave me really bad pain at times. Reminded me of your pain in relation to the toilet. I had to essentially rest for 6 wks but it got better as the ortho doc said it would. Two years ago, it turned into a burst fracture again, ortho doc said as long as it really wasn't giving me issues. He didn't want to touch it. Praise the Lord I do not have back pain on a regular basis. I get it when I overdo it, but that honestly help me know when to sit down and rest. I've learned to set parameters on what I lift, how I bend (bending over hard is what caused mine in the first place). Good luck, praying for you.

Shari,
Many of us post that when we do too much, we experience extreme fatigue, but a week is too long. Talk to your doctor. MM causes blood clots. Make sure you hydrate, especially when working in the yard, which is one of my favorite things. I love my flowers, especially roses.

What a trooper — four days of battling thorny vines is no small feat! But the level of pain experienced here is something worth taking seriously and discussing with your doctor.

Leg pain is very common with myeloma and can come from several sources:

- Bone damage or lesions that weaken bones and increase fracture risk
- Peripheral neuropathy — nerve pain causing numbness, tingling, or intense pain in the legs
- Spinal compression from weakened vertebrae, which can cause radiating leg pain
- Muscle cramps as a side effect of myeloma treatments Pushing through 2-3 hours of strenuous activity daily for several days can absolutely overwhelm the body when managing myeloma. Many MyMyelomaTeam members find they need to balance activity with rest, and that overdoing it leads to significant setbacks.

A few important things to flag:

- Doubling up on pain meds without medical guidance can be risky — please check with your doctor before doing this again
- Excruciating pain sitting or standing could signal something that needs medical evaluation, especially related to your spine
- A physical therapist could help design a yard-work-friendly activity plan that protects your body Before starting again, it's really worth a conversation with your healthcare team. They can assess what's causing the pain and help create a safer plan so you can keep doing what you love — just without the week in bed afterward!
