A lambda free light chain of 3.5 may be considered low depending on the labโ€™s reference range, but low values by themselves are not always dangerous. Sometimes treatment, remission status, immune suppression, or reduced plasma cell activity can affect the numbers.

Doctors usually pay closer attention when:
light chains are rapidly rising
the ratio becomes abnormal
there are signs of relapse
kidney function changes
symptoms worsen
