Free light chain numbers can be confusing because the important part is usually not just the single number alone, but also:the kappa/lambda ratio trends over time whether there is a paraprotein/M-spikes
kidney function overall clinical picture
A lambda free light chain of 3.5 may be considered low depending on the lab’s reference range, but low values by themselves are not always dangerous. Sometimes treatment, remission status, immune suppression, or reduced plasma cell activity can affect the numbers.
Doctors usually pay closer attention when:
light chains are rapidly rising
the ratio becomes abnormal
there are signs of relapse
kidney function changes
symptoms worsen
In my own Multiple Myeloma journey, I learned not to panic over one isolated result because MM monitoring is often about the overall pattern and trend over time.

A Lambda Free Light Chain (FLC) level of 3.5 mg/L is actually within or close to the normal reference range (typically 5.7–26.3 mg/L for lambda chains). So a low number like 3.5 could mean the lambda chains are on the lower end.
