- High calcium levels in the blood can also contribute to nerve-related symptoms How myeloma treatments cause neuropathy:
- Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is actually the most common cause
- Certain immunomodulatory drugs used in treatment can damage or worsen nerve health
As one MyMyelomaTeam member shared, a neurologist told them: *"You have multiple myeloma, you're on chemo. Both of those things cause neuropathy."*
The good news is that for some people, neuropathy improves after treatment ends or when doses are adjusted. However, for others it can persist long-term. It's always worth talking to your oncology team — they can help manage symptoms and review whether any treatment adjustments might help.
