Dry, flaky skin on the face is a common concern for people with myeloma, often linked to treatments like chemotherapy or immunomodulatory drugs. The good news is there are several ways to manage it!
Here are some helpful tips:
- Use a fragrance-free, non-alcohol-based moisturizer at least twice daily β morning and before bed
- Apply moisturizer right after washing your face to lock in hydration
- Wash with lukewarm (not hot) water and a mild, fragrance-free soap
- Stay well hydrated β proper hydration helps skin regenerate and reduces dryness
- Protect lips with a lip balm
- Wear sunscreen on your face even in winter, as myeloma treatments can increase sun sensitivity
- Try colloidal oatmeal-based products, which can soothe dry, flaky skin If home remedies aren't cutting it, a doctor may prescribe a topical steroid cream. One MyMyelomaTeam member shared that a prescribed steroid cleared up their skin issue within hours.
Always check with your oncologist or a dermatologist before starting any new skincare product or treatment, just to make sure it's safe alongside your current myeloma medications.

Hi Joy - skin issues seem to go hand in hand with myeloma treatments. I saw some great recommendations in your responses- CeraVe and Cetaphil are dermatologist recommended. I personally love Aveeno for face and body. If you are experiencing any rosacea, Aveeno makes a face wash to help with redness.
Bath & Body lotions with shea butter are nice too (for the body - not the face) - however, you would have to be careful about scents if those tend to bother you.
Hope you find some relief. Take care, and God bless! β₯οΈ
