Personal Journey and Background
Diagnosis: In 2003, Shepherd was diagnosed with polycythemia vera, a rare and incurable form of bone marrow cancer.
Recovery: After conventional medicine offered no solutions, Shepherd used his background in biochemistry to research alternatives, eventually developing a unique form of astaxanthin that led to his total recovery in 2013.
Philosophy: He advocates for treating the root cause of chronic disease—specifically inflammation and high levels of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS).

About ValAsta
The Product: Founded in 2018, ValAsta is a patented, glycosidic form of astaxanthin, designed to be highly bioavailable compared to typical astaxanthin supplements.
Mechanism: The product uses a proprietary liposomal delivery system that encapsulates astaxanthin in a fat molecule, which Shepherd claims allows it to pass through the blood-brain barrier and enter cells more efficiently.
Targeted Use: It is intended to reduce systemic inflammation and has been used to address various conditions, including cancer, Alzheimer's, and arthritis.

Key Claims and Focus
Cancer & Inflammation: Shepherd claims that ValAsta helps combat cancer cells by increasing their pH level to inhibit growth and promote apoptosis (programmed cell death).
Dosage: While standard, off-the-shelf astaxanthin is used at lower doses, Shepherd has used up to 3,000 mg/day for severe cases.
Availability: ValAsta is available for both human and pet use.

Connie,
I'm so sorry to hear about your MM progression. I didn't do the stem cell transplant. I was afraid of it also.
I started the Astaxanthin yesterday. I subscribe to ConsumerLab.com where they evaluate and rate supplements. I bought the California Gold Nutrition brand. It was one of the two Top Picks. These are good options if you are not ready to purchase Sam Sheppard's brand.
