Diagnosed as stage two because legions have started. All blood work would put me at stage 1. As a 53 year old what should I be looking forward to 5-10 years or who knows!!

Also is there any chance for disability benefits even though I am relatively healthy as of now.

What should someone with stage 2 myeloma expect in the next 5-10 years, and are disability benefits possible even when feeling relatively healthy?

Stage 2 myeloma falls between stage 1 and stage 3 in terms of progression and outlook. Your prognosis depends on several factors beyond just staging, including your overall health, kidney function, and specific characteristics of your myeloma cells.

Being 53 years old works in your favor - younger people diagnosed with myeloma generally have longer life expectancies and better outcomes. The five-year survival rate for stage 2 myeloma is around 62 percent, though individual experiences vary widely.

Stage 2 may require more intensive treatments than stage 1, but many people respond well to therapy. A MyMyelomaTeam member diagnosed with stage 3 in 2018 achieved remission and later received a kidney transplant, emphasizing that outcomes can be better than initial expectations.

Regarding disability benefits, eligibility isn't solely based on how you feel right now. Factors considered include:
- Your ability to work
- Treatment side effects
- Symptoms like fatigue, bone pain, or frequent infections
- How myeloma impacts your daily functioning

Even if you're feeling relatively healthy now, the diagnosis itself and treatment demands may qualify you for benefits. It's worth consulting with a disability attorney or advocate who specializes in chronic illness cases to explore your options.

Staying connected with your healthcare team about symptoms and treatment responses will be crucial for managing your outlook over the coming years.
