I'm a dental hygienist. Osteonecrosis of the jaw will occur during a tooth extraction. It's easily preventable by going off bisphosphonates (bone building meds) for 3 months prior, (best to be seen by an oral surgeon and having them consult with your oncologist). Although extremely important your DDS knows about ALL medications you take at every visit. There is a reason why we ask everyone. Also very important to have very good home care and regular visits to prevent the need for surgery or extractions.
Shortly after being diagnosed with MM, four years ago, I placed myself on the Algae Cal program, taking Calcium, Strontium, and Magnesium supplements daily. I've experienced a number of falls over these years, but so far no broken bones. A recent bone scan found most bones ok, some a little weak. My spine has deteriorated and a scan shows one fracture. I have not taken any of the bone supplements which can sometimes trigger osteonecrosis of the jaw. I stay on the Algae Cal program and so far it seems that I am good. I exercise regularly and take many targeted supplements. I've been in remission since the beginning of the year.
I've recently added the use of the Power Plate to my exercise program and when I am doing exercises on the Power Plate I feel stronger and experience less fatigue.
Talk to an oral surgeon about your jaw. Instead of Zometa or another bisphosphonate, I take 1400 mg of Calcium & Magnesium (MRM Bone Maximizer III) with extra D3 & K2, Vitamins C, A and E complex. It seems to be working.
