I have that lesion on my skull and it is being watched ( quarterly ). Three months is a fair amount of time between MRIs. So is there anything I should stop taking, eating or using to help lessen the lesion's advancement. So far mine is stable after two scans. I was thinking it was from an old injury, but since finding out my thinking from the start has been flawed, I'm not at all sure I won't have to have treatment/radiation or " Chemo". My next scan isn't till late Feb.

Members rallied around a question about living with a solitary plasmacytoma, sharing personal experiences with skull lesions, balance issues, tinnitus, and the emotional weight of waiting between scans. Several members offered helpful perspective, including the difference between lytic lesions and plasmacytomas, the importance of regular blood tests and imaging, and the value of calcium and vitamin D supplements for bone health, with the strong reminder to always check with a doctor first. A recurring theme was the comfort found in community support, staying proactive with follow-up care, and finding peace while navigating uncertainty.

I was told to take calcium supplements as well. I try to get calcium from food as much as possible. Since the supplements don't agree with me. We do need to check with our doctor.

Hi KathrynGuillaum.
If you have a lesion (called lytic lesions) this is not a plasmacytoma, thankfully! A lesion is an area of weakened bone due to MM, whereas a plasmacytoma is an actual tumour in the bone. I have had both and the plasmacytoma in my collarbone was excruciatingly painful, whereas I have never had pain associated with my skull lesions. I have 2, which were first noticed during my MM diagnosis in 2019. They have never grown in all that time. There are no restrictions to activity that I've been cautioned about, and I STRONGLY disagree with the advice to avoid calcium supplements. Please consult your doctor - there are only a couple of reasons not to take it, one being high blood calcium levels. Caltrate Plus was recommended by my hematologist for bone strength, not only for MM, but to help in avoiding osteoporosis (amongst other things, of course, i.e.weight bearing exercise and diet etc.). Women are especially at risk of osteoporosis and osteopenia, and coupled with multiple myeloma, places us at increased risk of deteriorating bone strength and fracture. So far I have only a low level of osteopenia that has not increased since pre-MM. I will be 67 this year and have had no hormones or hormone replacement therapy since having both a hysterectomy and ovary removal at 34 years of age. Caltrate Plus has calcium, vitamin D, and other ingredients to help metabolize both. Take care and we a stand with you, hoping for positive updates!
