A serum free light chain (SFLC) test measures these proteins. People with high SFLC scores are more likely to have a poor prognosis. This test is also used to:
- Diagnose light chain myeloma specifically
- Monitor disease progression
- Predict outcomes in earlier conditions that might develop into myeloma
