"Researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute have developed a blood test that could transform the diagnosis and monitoring of multiple myeloma (MM) and its precursor conditions. The new method, known as SWIFT-seq, utilizes single-cell sequencing to profile circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the blood, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional bone marrow biopsies."

I am a volunteer for a similar multiple myeloma predictive test project jointly between HealthTree and “Predicta”. There are new research and development technologies actively being pursued for our community of patients. They will use my lab results and a blood draw in the study.
🧬 GenoPredicta is a cutting-edge blood test developed by Predicta Biosciences that’s transforming how multiple myeloma is diagnosed and managed.
🔍 What It Does
• Uses whole genome sequencing (WGS) to detect genetic alterations in tumor cells from either bone marrow or peripheral blood
• Identifies high-risk genetic markers and mutations like TP53, KRAS, BCMA, and GPRC5D, which are crucial for prognosis and treatment decisions A B
• Detects structural variants, copy number variants, and single nucleotide variants that traditional tests like FISH often miss A
💡 Why It Matters
• Offers a less invasive alternative to bone marrow biopsies by enabling testing via blood samples B
• Helps physicians stratify risk, predict therapy response, and monitor disease progression
• Meets the latest International Myeloma Society (IMS) and International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) guidelines for high-risk MM detection A
🧪 Accessibility & Quality
• Available as a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT) in CLIA-certified labs, ensuring high standards of accuracy B C
• Can be used for patients with MGUS, Smoldering Myeloma, Amyloidosis, and other plasma cell disorders A
If you’re exploring diagnostic options or want to understand how this test fits into your care plan, you can learn more on Predicta Biosciences’ product page.
@A MyMyelomaTeam Member Different blood tests, but I would think much better than a bone marrow biopsy. Hopefully both will be available very soon!
"EasyM is focused on measuring M-protein levels for MRD monitoring using mass spectrometry, while SWIFT-seq profiles CTCs through single-cell sequencing to provide a more comprehensive genetic and biological overview of the tumor, aiming to replace more invasive diagnostic procedures."
Recently had the drill method at my oncologist clinic. So much better than the needle. I could actually do it again without hesitation. I wore headphones with loud music. The doctor gave me Ativan and morphine. It would be wonderful to have a blood test instead. I hope this is going to come about sooner than later.
If you must get a BMB, get it at a hospital under light sedation with a guided fluoroscope procedure. It’s painless and they are sure they get a good biopsy on the first try.
WOW!! I would try anything if I never have to have another bone marrow biopsy!! A fellow MM Warrior did tell me that the BMX with an electric drill hurts FAR LESS than the one with the hand-cranked drill. Maybe I'll get them one for Christmas!!
