Yep. I think the problem is that so many of MM symptoms could be attributed to something else. I have really bad fatigue but I also have pre-diabetic blood sugar levels (insulin resistance) that appeared suddenly last October. Is it related to MM or something else? Nobody seems to know.....
Thank you for replying. I have the impression that you’re as much at sea as I am, although I’ve progressed from MGUS to Smouldering Myeloma - which is why I wonder if the sudden skin deterioration could be associated.
At the moment I don’t want to escalate things by contacting the myeloma consultant but I’m shocked at how uninterested the ENT department are and my GP. It’s as if myeloma is irrelevant!
I, too, experienced a sudden onset of eczema about two years ago. It was an allergist's inability to pinpoint a cause that prompted the blood test that detected an M-spike. I have since been diagnosed with MGUS although I just took another blood test (after a year) and am not sure what the results indicate but I am meeting with doctor on 30 April. And I really don't know if the eczema is even related to MGUS or MM etc...etc... In my world, nobody seems to really have a definitive answer.
While skin symptoms can occur with multiple myeloma, they are relatively rare, affecting only about 1% of people with the condition. Skin changes can be caused by the myeloma itself, its complications, or as side effects of cancer treatments.
