By the way, I think the message about getting an SCT is kind of confusing. They tell you, if you are high risk, which I am and stage 3 to get it. But they tell you, you probably won't achieve full remission and you will have to be on maintenance drugs your entire life anyway. Also if you do it, it will only last 1 year but not prolong your life. It makes more sense to get an SCT if you are standard risk where you can achieve long drug free remissions.
I am 68 and chose not to have the SCT. I am 10 months in on maintenance and feeling great. Haven't missed a day of work.
I did not have sct I was ill I have been in remission for 2 and a half years I was diagnosed at 56 while on treatment a patient next to me his SCT he reckons only kept him in remission for a year .So I think it is a personal choice as i was told it would be 10 days treatment and high dose chemo can be brutal.
