I was diagnosed with smoldering myeloma 2 years ago. At what point does it move to multiple myeloma. My Dr moved and the new Dr did some new blood work and haven't heard back yet. My numbers have gone up in a couple of things.

- First 5 years: About 10% of people develop multiple myeloma each year.

- 10 years or more: About 1% develop multiple myeloma each year.

- Risk Factors:
- Plasma cells with certain gene changes
- High numbers of plasma cells in the bone marrow
- High or increasing levels of M protein
- M protein made from IgA heavy chain
- Bone lesions visible on X-rays

Regular monitoring and tests are essential to assess the risk and detect any progression.
