Multiple Myeloma With Deletion 17p TP53.
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have progressed from MGUS 10/1019, Smoldering Multiple Myeloma 01/2022, to Multiple Myeloma stage 1 08/03/2023. I have IgG Kappa Multiple Myeloma with deletion 17p (1 arm) TP53.

The Deletion 17p TP53 still confuses me with this one arm vs two arm prognosis. With 17p TP53 two arm the prognosis is poor with OS at 6 years. With one arm it is not as poor? What is the OS with one arm? If you have 17p do you automatically have the TP 53?

I start VRD treatment the 14th of August 2023 with a SCT… read more

Hey Ricky, this means we are missing the short arm of chromosome 17 on our myeloma cells. The short arm of chromosome 17 contains the tumor suppressor gene protein called p53. So, you are probably Googling and getting a lot if doom and gloom responses about 17p deletion with myeloma. You can have deletion 17p without p53 deletion. I happen to have both. So I am high risk. I read alot, it also depends on the percentage of myeloma cells that have the deletion and if we are missing both alleles of the gene. Very complicated. Anyway, my myeloma was a booger to knock down. Getting a myeloma specialist is very important for us. Also, staying on the recommended treatments is important. A stem cell transplant was recommended for me. So I was diagnosed January 23rd, 2017 almost 6 years ago. I'm in a very good partial response on Darzalex and Pomalyst. I am doing well. You are in a much better position than I was. Your myeloma was monitored and caught much earlier than mine. You will do well. I recommend you maximize your nutrition, walk and do some light resistance exercises. Transplant takes a lot out of you. I hope this helps. 💕🥰🙏
