Bone Med Question
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was placed on Xgeva a little over a year ago after having miserable side effects to Zometa. My doctor wanted me on a bone med to prevent/reduce potential bone issues I could tolerate Xgeva better initially, but side effects seem to be worsening over time. Having more chronic muscle and joint achiness. Just had a bone scan and my bones look OK. Just curious if anyone else has had similar side effects to these meds and how you managed this.

Thanks,
Rebecca🙂

My doctor wants me on Zometa but drugs make me nervous, because of side effects. So do broken bones. It’s a hard place to be in. I started eating more yogurt and taking Calcium, D3 & K2 and it seems to be helping. My nails are growing longer and stronger.

I agree. It's a hard decision and place to be in. No one wants broken bones. Sounds like your doing some good things. I also have been a very regular exerciser. Feel lucky I can do this. Hopefully exercise helps as well!

I'm happy to hear that they were able to put you on another med for you bones. We definitely need them to stay strong and not break or crumble.
Have a fantastic week

I was lucky that I only had one fractured rib at diagnosis. I took Zometa every 3 months for 2 years. My bone density was normal. I walk with a weight vest and eat non fat dairy and take vitamin d. 😉💕
