Even myeloma experts do not agree on the answer to your question. There are many factors that have to be considered, so it is a personal choice about which considerations are most important to you as an individual. There is no one correct answer that fits everyone. So, whatever you decide is right for you. I had an autologous SCT back in 1999 when I was in my mid-50s and in otherwise good health. I had over 2 years of remission before I relapsed. Would I make the same decision at my current age and with my other health issues? No, but I am glad I did it in 1999.
I had SCT in 2010 I was sage 2. Have been in remission since. Treatments weren’t fun but obviously worth it. Your dr and you should discuss age, stage, health before you decide. It’s tough or it was for me but I am blessed I had this choice.
Thank you for your sharing your experience. Glad to see it's been close to 23 years since you had the SCT.
Thank you for your response. It's so nice to hear you have been in remission for so long.
