Dementia And Myeloma
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Over the past month, my husband has experienced a great deal of confusion and forgetfullness. It seems to me to be more than just "chemo brain fog". Has anyone else experienced dementia-like symptoms in the progression of the disease?

Ask to be tested for cognitive skills and memory. I took these and ended up getting into a great mindfulness and goal setting group that meets once a week remotely. The testing will be able to identify if there is an issue with memory.

Hi Anne, Chemo Brain is a real thing. It can be severe but if you are concerned you might try talking to his doctor and being referred to a Neurologist for a work up on Dementia. If he is on pain medications that can also add to his symptoms. Does he have family history of Dementia? Has this just recently started or has it gradually come on and worsened? Keep me updated. Have a good night! Love, Marcia 🌼🌸🌻

I experience the same symptoms. It comes and goes. Most of it is the chemo fog. You also have to keep in mind that MM is a blood cancer. He could be experiencing ups and downs of oxygen levels in his brain. I also experience episodes of falling asleep and only realize it because I am waking up. I get shots of B12 every month and that helps.

Hi Anne Cares, I am hoping its medication related. Since it is a recent occurrence. But, I agree with the other posts that a neurologist eval is in order. Love and prayers to you bothπŸ™

I ,too experienced brain fog after the Valcade shots. But since I'm on maintenance now and no longer on Valcade, I've not had that fog feeling. The Revlimid doesn't seem to have same effect on me. But as they say everyone's reactions to each medication can be completely different depending on that person's body. I say, check with your care team if you are concerned about it. Take care & stay positive.
