Mine are 90% plasma cells in the bone marrow and understand normal is less than 5%.
Wow, that's amazing. My first BMB came back only 10%. I'm getting another one in a couple of days because the hematologist believes it's probably actually higher than that given my free light chain… read more
anyone here who diagnosed with secondary plasma cell leukemia after mm?
Samar, make sure you are seeing a specialist that only deals with myeloma. Which you probably already are. 🙏💗
As a retired physician, I hypothesize that a cause for multiple myeloma is long term exposure to your immune system by a never changing bacteria or virus. The most likely source for such a bacteria or virus is a root canal or shingles. Bacteria can multiply and divide without exposure to plasma cells in the tubules of a dead tooth. Shingles virus hides in the spine. The never changing bacteria from the dead tooth then leaks into the gum where plasma cells are constantly stimulated to create a… read more
I would ask your Oncologist first before I would get a root canal done. You should get the shingles vaccine if you haven’t already.
In my recent Bone Marrow Biopsy, Monosomy 13 was a new marker that came up with 19% involvement. My doctor said this marker and 10% involvement of plasma cells is what moved me up to Smoldering.
Good information to have. Thank you. So sorry for your upgraded diagnosis.
Is there significant information to be gained by participating or is it more about statistics and funding for the group doing the study?
I'm a little bit skeptical of it am not comfortable giving out too much of my stats etc.
That’s was going to be my next treatment option
I had 5 lines of therapy, last 2 were not working well. I went down pretty quickly, low blood count and kidneys were damaged. I went back to Cy-bor-d… read more
It's hard to find what a bad number is on the internet. If my IGA is 500 and it says High, is 10,000 really where Myeloma comes in? What about the other numbers? Especially the percentages on the FISH report.
Healthtree , a multiple myeloma site has a comprehensive list of multiple myeloma lab test explanations, definitions and upper/lower limits or standard ranges in Healthtree University. I felt it was… read more
I have had one hell of a journey till now. I have light chain myeloma and was stage 3 when diagnosed with over 90% plasma cell infiltration. I had induction therapy with VRD and a stem cell transplant in January. Bone marrow aspiration shows a reduction to 1-3% plasma cells. Everything else is gone except that I still had a kappa lambda ratio of 24. Just completed my first cycle of consolidation, and ration only reduced to 20. This concerns me, as literature says the sooner serum light chain… read more
I hope it keeps going down. 🙏 Keep exercising and eating well. Drink your water. 💕
Can someone explain if there’s a difference in “Light Chain MM” between “Kappa” and “Lambda” light chain MMs?
I get a panel every three months; except for urine; so far so good.
I'm not as educated on the blood results,, so I go by the range
I research but probably not as thoroughly as I could

I was just diagnosed on April 30th with SMM. My kidney numbers are okay for now. I have 10% plasma cells in my bone marrow. I have IGA Kappa which is supposed to make me higher risk of kidney… read more
