The ortho surgeon says I need both knees replaced. My oncologist son-in-law says the MM and the treatment I am on make me very high risk and says I shouldn't do it. I have just gotten to a place where I am fairly active and feel like I have a decent quality of life with MM. Now this.
Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to answer. I have had the injections and they have helped. Nothing is simple when you have MM, there is so much to consider!
Sophie......I had my hip done 10 years before MM. No problem so far. Not sure what would happen if you do the surgery now while you have MM.
Good luck
Hi! I would like to know if anyone began protocols for Stem Cell Transplant when Stage 1 moved from smoldering to active (not Stage 2). My mother is on this road within 1 month of this advancement. As I research, I find that there are numerous options to consider AND Medicare guideline cover Stage 2 And 3.
Thanks!
I went from Mugus ( quickly ), to Stage one. SCT was not an option because it was not necessary. I was told I started MM back in 2012. I was diagnosed in 2018. I was 71, I think , at the time. Why SCT… read more

I have not been able to see my Myeloma specialist, Dr Sagar Lonial at Emory in over 2 years because in 2020 I was in the hospital here having surgery for a twisted small intestine & in 2021 I had fallen & had to have a hip replacement. I am just not able to make the trip anymore to Emory & I have not had a BMB or any of my yearly tests since 2019. I need to know if anyone knows a good Myeloma Specialist in the Birmingham area as I am only about 10 miles from UAB hospital. My Dr at Grandview… read more
Call the myeloma Foundation and they will have a great recommendation!
It is a super soft blanket. The one I have is actually an electric blanket. But I never turn it on since Chemo.
I got it from Amazon.
Does anyone here feel a bone marrow transplant is something they don’t feel good about doing. Seems most people have them and as I’m recouping from double hip replacement I’m not able at this point but sooner or later I need to make the decision but everything inside of me says no. Is this God speaking or me. I’ve been praying for the right answer and the doc keeps pushing
Larry, I had mine n 2020, it was a breeze except for the the heat be dose of chemo. That took about 3 days to recover from. But my Meyloma was really aggressive and I my team at MD Anderson got tit… read more
I think it was worth it. I can’t say that it wasn’t really rough. It was for me, but I’ve heard from other people that it wasn’t too bad for them. However, I think it really helped keep my MM under… read more
Says he may have aggravated it on tread mill. MRI showed only tendinitis. He says it feels like shin spints. He can only walk about 10 minutes before he starts to feel pain. Only resting helps it. He just wants to get more mobility back. He is 58 was very active and is in the process of SCT planning for June. Doctor says no lesions present now and his bones are healing due to the Zometa infusions monthly since January.
I had my first zones yesterday. In lots of pain from low back and hip replacement issues. Trying gabapentin but it makes me sleepy
Like so many with MM, pain is a major symptom. My husband is on Tramadol (an opiod) and Tylenol. Tylenol causes his kidney function numbers to rise, so he's hesitant to use this. And of course as we all know, opiods can and usually are addictive. CBD has been suggested, but he is also on blood pressure medication and has been told not to use CBD. So none of these choices is good. My question is: What are others doing for pain management? Also, has anyone had accupuncture, and if so, did… read more
