Employment Question: How Have Those With MM Been Able To Maintain Employment While Managing This Disease When Not In Remission?

Employment Question
I am wondering what are some employment options others with MM have chosen that has been successful while attending to their health issues. I stopped working in December to focus more on my health. Although I do not take chemo or other meds, I am not in remission. I am maintaining good outcome MM numbers and lab work primarily through nutrition, supplements, and other lifestyle changes. I am currently working on managing constant bone pain without taking opioids. I do not… read more

Recommendation For Tracking Health App

Recommendation For Tracking Health App

I’m looking to use an app to track how I’m feeling, side effects, etc so that when I see my oncologist I’ll have a record to easily look back.
I know I can simply keep a journal or write it on a calendar but always more fun to use apps for this kind of stuff.

Do I Still Need A Myeloma Specialist? I Have Been In Remission 8-1/2 Years.

Do I Still Need A Myeloma Specialist? I Have Been In Remission 8-1/2 Years.

I have not been able to see my Myeloma specialist, Dr Sagar Lonial at Emory in over 2 years because in 2020 I was in the hospital here having surgery for a twisted small intestine & in 2021 I had fallen & had to have a hip replacement. I am just not able to make the trip anymore to Emory & I have not had a BMB or any of my yearly tests since 2019. I need to know if anyone knows a good Myeloma Specialist in the Birmingham area as I am only about 10 miles from UAB hospital. My Dr at Grandview… read more

If You Have Multiple Myeloma, Have You Had A Root Canal Or Shingles. I Need Both Yes And No Answers

If You Have Multiple Myeloma, Have You Had A Root Canal Or Shingles. I Need Both Yes And No Answers

As a retired physician, I hypothesize that a cause for multiple myeloma is long term exposure to your immune system by a never changing bacteria or virus. The most likely source for such a bacteria or virus is a root canal or shingles. Bacteria can multiply and divide without exposure to plasma cells in the tubules of a dead tooth. Shingles virus hides in the spine. The never changing bacteria from the dead tooth then leaks into the gum where plasma cells are constantly stimulated to create a… read more

I’ll add that I had shingles after having both types of shingles vaccines years before I developed MM. I had chickenpox as a child. Chickenpox virus never leaves the body. It stays dormant until it… read more

Does Anyone Have Belly Bloat?

Does Anyone Have Belly Bloat?

Does anyone have belly bloat? This last month it’s gotten worse. Also I’ve been waking up to throwing up just water though. Not nauseous just waking up to it. Last night was bad. Threw out my pillow and had to shower at 3am. 🤷‍♀️😞

Yup, I also have belly bloat but I thought I was just getting fat. It is so very frustrating so I am going to a dietician to find out what I can do to combat this.

Any Side Effects From Zometa Or Aredia

Any Side Effects From Zometa Or Aredia

My Dr wants to put me on Xgeva to help strengthen my bones. I’m in final cycle of extended drug treatment but have been in remission for the past 6 months with no signs of any bone weakening issues.
After reading up on these drugs and listening to recent Webinar on this subject from Myeloma Crowd, side effects can develop bone issues in the jaw.
Has anyone had any issues from these drugs since I’m leaning to op out of having this injection.

Appreciate your feedback.
Jim

My eyes get very hot especially after my weekly dex. I try eye drops when it really gets bad. Or even a cold pack over my eyes.
