Yes BlytheSpirit, my ears have been plugged for the last few years. I do think it is from MM meds but I have no idea which. I think it does come with the neuropathy I have from the meds.

Ear issues like plugged ears and tinnitus are worth paying attention to during myeloma treatment. While not the most commonly discussed side effect, nerve-related symptoms can show up in unexpected ways — including in the ears.
Some myeloma treatments, particularly certain chemotherapy drugs, can affect nerve health. This is part of a broader side effect known as peripheral neuropathy, which doesn't just affect hands and feet — it can impact other nerves too.
A few things that may be connected:
- Peripheral neuropathy from chemo can affect nerves throughout the body, potentially including those related to hearing
- Certain drugs like thalidomide (Thalomid) are known to cause nerve-related side effects
- Hyperviscosity (thickened blood caused by myeloma) can reduce blood flow and cause neurological symptoms including dizziness and sensory changes
It's really important to let your care team know about these symptoms right away. They may be able to:
- Adjust your dosage
- Switch medications
- Refer you to a specialist
Other MyMyelomaTeam members have shared that reporting side effects early made a real difference in how they were managed. Don't wait — the sooner your team knows, the more options they have to help.
