It works by targeting BCMA on myeloma cells and CD3 on T cells, essentially directing your immune system to attack the myeloma. One big advantage is that it's "off-the-shelf," meaning it doesn't need to be custom-made for each person like some other therapies. As with most myeloma treatments, there are side effects to be aware of. Common ones for this class of drug include:
- Infections
- Low white blood cell counts
- Lower levels of normal antibodies that help fight infection
These are worth discussing closely with your care team so they can monitor you and help manage any symptoms that come up.
