While the article is mostly true, all is not as fast and rosy as described.

My reality:
Arrive for blood draw (must be there 20 minutes before appointment time).
Wait for the lab to provide results from blood tests. Can take up to an hour.
If all is well with blood test, order the injection from the pharmacy.
Wait for an hour or more for the nuses to receive the injection.
Receive the injection (3-5 minutes)

Total time from arrival to departure on average: 2.5 - 3.0 hours

Save about 1 - 1.5 hours compared to the infusion.

Yes, I prefer the injection.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member Ange, leading up to my sct, I was given self injection drugs right before sct collection on the apheresis machine: Filgrastim (G-CSF), Plerixafor (Mozobil) and Motixaflortide (Aphexda). Had to keep them refrigerated. Apparently these drugs help the sct be more successful. Meanwhile, several months prior to sct, I was on velcade, faspro and lenalidomide25mg. All that and hardly any side effects except the Velcade caused eyelid inflammation (they looked like styes, actual name blepharitis).
Then came the sct with the melphalan (🤮). Two+ years in and so far, stable but not remission.

Subcutaneous injections are an increasingly common way to receive myeloma treatments. For example, Sarclisa (isatuximab) now has an approved under-the-skin version called Sarclisa Escena, which works similarly to the IV version but with some key differences in how it's delivered. How it's given:
- A healthcare professional can inject it manually using a syringe
- It can also be delivered via a small on-body device (CirCLIQ) that automatically delivers the medicine hands-free

Time comparison vs. IV infusion:
- Manual injection: ~6 minutes
- On-body device: ~20–60 minutes
- IV infusion: up to 3+ hours for the first dose Possible side effects to watch for include:
- Injection-site reactions (redness, pain, swelling)
- Upper respiratory infections
- Fatigue
- Peripheral neuropathy (numbness/tingling)
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Rash
